REUNION 2008

Everything is pretty much locked in place for our reunion but there is always a little wiggle room for anyone that decides to attend at the last minute. Oktoberfest seating is still available close to our reserved seating but probably not immediately with us. The hotel rate is technically closed but probably negotiate-able. Transportation to and from the events is closed, any latecomers will have to drive themselves. The banquet can be adjusted up to a week before the event. If you decide to come, and have NOT sent in your Reservation Request, call me before you make any plans. My number is 314-367-9577.

Bill Nippert (BA 70-72/Augsburg 72-76/79-81/86-89) would like to know if anyone out there knows what operations were at Kaiserslautern in the 82-85 time frame. Bill noted that CSM Bontly (last month’s TAPS) was there during that period. Nippert got there in the Spring of 1986 and the only intelligence unit of any kind was the 527th MI Bn. (COUNTER-Intel.) Bill assumes that Bontly would have been the BN CSM, leaving just before he arrived.

Dennis Bennett (Scheyern 57/BA 57-62/Rothwesten 68-70/Augsburg 70-73 74-79 90-96) just got back from a three week trip to Germany and mentioned how expensive things were over there. Dennis said that the exchange rte is really terrible and averaged $1.57 to the Euro while they were there. They spent most of their time in the BA area and attended the Bruckhmulh Bier Fest most of the ten days that it ran. Here are some of the price examples Dennis gave: a liter of Bier was €6.20 = $9.75, half of a Chicken was €5.80 = $9.10 and, last but not least, a big Bier Fest Pretzel was €3.20 = $5.00.

Supporting member Len Bittner (Herzo/Coburg/Giessen/Hammelburg/Hof 50-52) mentioned that his daughter and her husband are also off to Germany to catch this year’s Oktoberfest in Munich.

Tisch Telefone have just about been beaten to death so we are going to pick up on a new subject. Most of you are familiar with the web site Wikipedia and they have an article there about the Army Security Agency. Within that article is a notation that the NSA had individuals stationed within some of the ASA units. Well, a bunch of us have been discussing who that individual probably was at Scheyern and we think we have come up with the solution. We will “out” this individual in the next newsletter (with tongue-in-cheek.) Your job now is to nominate other NSAers who infiltrated our ranks. Not just suggesting names but why you think the individual you nominate is the mole. Go to it guys. If you want to check out the Wikipedia article it is at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki//Army_Security_Agency.
