In last month’s Interceptor, we mention that long time Supporting Member Elliott Rogers passed away.  After publication I got an e-mail from Elliott’s daughter, Beverly White, and thought you might appreciate her added comments.  Beverly writes “Among the many memorabilia in my Dad’s favorite room, his den, were several pictures of reunions with the Alpiners.  He also spoke often of the ‘Herzo Survivors’ with fondness.”

Elliott’s entire family was on hand, in support of Hilde, when she received the American flag from the Honor Guard.  Beverly continued “It was a very proud moment for us, albeit a very painful one, with more than one tear shed and more than one of his jokes shared.”

Beverly concluded with “Thank you all for being his friend.”  No Beverly, the privilege was ours.

Back in April, we published a note from John Yurich (Scheyern 47-48) about the winning basketball team from Scheyern that took the Munich Area Company Level basketball championship.  Rick Schramm (Scheyern/Bad Aibling 54-58) wrote that he would also like to give credit to the 1956 FS 8608 DU baseball team that took the SACOM championship.  Rick mentions that there were teams that had a population of thousands of personnel but the Scheyern guys came through.  As Rick said, “it just goes to show you, the little guy can come out on top.  HOORAY TO THE 1956 SCOM SOFTBALL CHAMPIONS FROM 8608 DU.” Rick concludes his note requesting that any members of the 1956 team reading this item contact him at schrammrick@aol.com.

Jack Hood (Salzburg 53-55) asks if anyone out there knows the fate or whereabouts of Captain John G. Searle (Salzburg 52-55).  Contact Jack at jacksswamp@msn.com.Rothwesten Flag team 66.JPG
Speaking of ASA sport teams, Lief Bentsen (Rothwesten/Bad Tolz 66-68) sent in the above picture of the 1966 Rothwesten flag football team.  He’s number 62.  Anybody out there recognize other team members?

Way back in January Ed Gillette (Bad Aibling 70-72) was looking for a pre-70’s Bad Aibling unit crest.  Well we just got a response from a web site reader, identified only as loumerlyn(at)aol.com.  He says that a 320th or 18th ASA crest is in a display case at the VA Outreach Center in San Bernardino, CA.  Our reader says it was his.

Art Gales (Herzo/Augsburg 71-73 Berlin 77) gives us a heads-up on another web site that might be of interest to you Augsburgers out there. Just Google “augsburg2ndops”  and follow the links.

The Vegas Mini-Reunion is pretty much set now.  An e-mail was sent out to all who had expressed an interest in this November 25-28, 2007 gathering.  If you did not receive my last e-mail, and are interested in joining the group, send your contact information to the reunion coordinator at herzobase2@aol.com.  The only change is a $15 reduction in both the single and double reunion costs to account for the elimination of the Herzo directory and gift for the Alpiners attending.
green mountain boys flag.gifSupporting Member Robert L. (Bob) Rounds (116th SRIC – WW-II) writes that he recently received a visit from the Vermont State Historian (a member of the National Guard) and two others.  They made a 2-1/2 hour video of Bob’s World War 2 recollections.  Bob says that the project is being proofed now and will end up in the Library of Congress after he approves it and it will be available to the public to enjoy or research.  He said that the program was funded by the 2000 Congress and surviving veterans of any war are being interviewed.  Bob continues that he was personally pleased to have been recorded and that he was presented with a Vermont Army National Guard flag similar to the Green Mountain Boys flag above

If any of you old Scheyern guys (1947ish) remember a cook by the name of Edward John Murphy his daughter would like to contact you.  “John” has passed away and his daughter is looking for any memories of her dad that she can share with her mother.  Let me know.

Robert Wilton Ingrim (Germany 53-54?) passed away July 30th as reported by Bob Evans (Scheyern 55-57).  Mr. Ingrim was not a member of the reunion group, nor is he listed in the ASA Locator, but  Bob Evans saw his obituary in the local paper and it mentioned that Ingrim was in the ASA in Germany and returned to the U. S. in 1954 with a German wife.
