Just a reminder to our newer members, prior editions of the Interceptor newsletter, and other historical data, can be found on our web site. We are located at http://www.asa-alpiners.com but you can also click on to the “Visit Our Web Site”, in the masthead above, and get there.

Carl “Big Z” Zelich (Bad Aibling 59-63) suggests that we all tune in to Nova on February 3, 2009 and catch the program on high-tech eavesdropping by the NSA. Check your local TV listings for Nova’s “The Spy Factory” in your time zone.

We find out, through an intercept of one of the yahoo groups, that INSCOM is looking for possible inductees to the 2010 MI Hall of Fame. In their message they say that “Each of us knows former MI Soldiers and Civilians who have made a significant difference in our professional lives, in the successful accomplishment of our mission, and who have made a lasting impact on the Corps.” They continue “If you have any specific questions about the Hall of Fame nomination process contact Mr. Tim Quinn, Deputy Director OCMI at timothy.quinn@us.army.mil or Lori Tagg, USAIC Historian lori.tagg@us.army.mil.

Jammy (Jim) Jarman (British DF Operator attached to the 137th SRIC late 1945) passes on some information about the current British Sigint. Jim says that the present Royal Signals Unit is the 14th Signal Regiment (Electronic Warfare) who are stationed in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. Jim says that during and after WW2 they were known as Operators Special and are now known as Operators Electronic Warfare. He added that the 14th has lost five members KIA in Afghanistan. Our salute Jim.

Dennis Bennett (Scheyern/Bad Aibling 57-59, Rothwesten 68-70, Augsburg 70-79/90-96) writes that the new Munich airport will probably be built in Oberpfaffenhofen rather than Erding because of so many road blocks they have encountered. Oberpfaffenhofen is near Starnberg about 20 clicks west of Munich center and not to be confused with Paffenhofen a. d. Ilm which is about 50 clicks north of Munich and the much beloved drinking capitol of Field Station 8608 at Scheyern.

A while back Chuck Rand (Scheyern 55-57) sent me a slide show about Germany that was one of the best I have ever seen. Chuck tracked it down for me and if you want some good pictures and music, check it out. Just Google “Das Beste Von Deutschland” and click on the slide show.

“Gus” Gruneisen (Giessen 52) tells us that the 353rd Comm. Recon. Group will be holding a reunion in Louisville, KY, June 23rd to 26th, 2009. Contact Gus at cgasagus@aol.com for further details.

The Colonel’s daughters wrote Mike that they “can’t tell you how much it would mean to Mom to have the men who served with our Dad attend the service in March. I know she would see it as the highest show of respect to Dad.” Mike will be happy to correspond with any of you who wish to come to the burial on March 20th and he would also love to receive any stories of your experiences with “Col. Mac”. Mike can be contacted by e-mail at mike@hannanart.com.
