REUNION 2008
Our 17th reunion will be held October 2 thru 4, 2008, in Saint Louis, Missouri. It will be held in conjunction with Saint Louis’ Soulard Oktoberfest and will feature Chikeria from Germany, two time Grammy award winner Brave Combo and The Obenheimer Express from Alsace. We will have more details available in next month’s Interceptor but in the meantime you can check out the Soulard Oktoberfest at http://www.soulardoktoberfest.com.
We are in negotiations with the Cheshire Inn to be our Headquarters Hotel. For those of you who were at the last Saint Louis reunion this is the place where we held our banquet. It is centrally located just on the edge of Forest Park. Check out the Cheshire at their web site at: http://www.cheshirelodge.net. Be sure to click thorough the whole site so you get an idea of what they and Saint Louis has to offer.
ASMN
Important: Next month’s newsletter will be sent out in the .pdf (Adobe Reader) format. If you can not use Adobe, let me know and I can still transmit in Word format. We have had some difficulty getting the newsletter on to our web site in the way it should look. Pictures are justified to the right hand side when we put the newsletter together but, when posted to the web site, end up justified to the left. We build the newsletter using the Arial font in 12 point to help many of us to read it better. Headings are also in Arial but are 14 point bold. Again, this has not been carried through to the web site. In this edition we have changed the way we separate our articles. The “>o<” we have been using did not carry through to our Webmaster so we have changed to just a horizontal line.
Vern Gruenke’s ASA Locator has changed his web site address. He is no longer at 5starpicks. His new site can be found at: http://www.asalives.org. Don’t forget to change his address in your favorite’s folder. Vern now has over 37,000 names in his data base so his site is the first one to check when looking for former buddies.
The Helemano Shackrats (5th Det-2nd Sig/FS 8605) will hold a reunion in Clearwater, Florida, from February 14-16. These are the guys that had the pleasure of living in the middle of some of Hawaii’s largest pineapple fields, Brodies (sp?) 1 and 2, in the late 40’s and early 50’s.
Pat Garrison, grandson of Roy Garrison (Scheyern post-WW2) has posted some of Roy’s Scheyern pictures on a web site. Although Pat has only just started to upload the pictures, you might want to take a look at what he has already done. The pictures are located at: http://flickr.com/photos/sgtdog.
Denny Byrne (British DF detachment at Hoegling) is still trying to locate Mike Lee (sp?) who drove a green VW Beetle and was stationed at Bad Aibling in the late 60’s. If you know of Mike’s whereabouts you can contact Denny at denis.byrne@hotmail.co.uk.
Another of our British counterparts, Jim Jarman, wrote that he appreciated reading Ed. Ioanes’ memories of Christmas Eve in the Ardennes. Jim’s British DF unit was attached to Ioanes’ 137th SRIC shortly thereafter (February ’45) and remained with the 137th until VE day. Talk about a small world. Jarman also noted that the members of the British 14th Signal Regiment (Electronic Warfare) are doing a very good job of work in Afghanistan even though the unit has lost four members KIA.
Supporting member Ray Lash (Scheyern 53-57) passes on information about an Internet radio
show for all service veterans and reserve/active duty members. You can get more information by going to http://www.giradio.us.
