Bill Evans (Schneeberg 56-59, Rothwesten/Dahme/Offenbach 60-64) is looking for former members of mobile ELINT units.  Bill writes that the unit started out in Vienna, Austria, until they were moved to Bad Aibling, then Heilbronn, Rothwesten and finally disbanded at Offenbach.  Bill adds that while in Schneeberg his unit designations were:
7219th DU (Pre ASA Signal Corps)
            7219th ASA Detachment
            19th ASA Detachment
            258th ASA Detachment
            1st Platoon, 279th ASA Company
Bill continues:  “When the 279th ASA Company was disbanded, the 3rd Platoon, 279th ASA Company at Bad Aibling became the 279th ASA Detachment, which later became the Theater Exploitation Company and then the 77th Special Operations Unit.  While Schneeberg was going through the above name changes, I’m fairly sure the Bad Aibling Detachments were going through similar changes using the same number system.”  Bill requests that if anyone has any memories of this unit, or if anyone was a member of this colorful unit, contact Bill by e-mail at:  wmnathan@aol.com.

TAPS

Iris Lorayne Case, widow of this reunion group’s founder, Bill Case (Scheyern 53-54), passed away on January 7, 2007, as reported by Joe Evans (Scheyern 52-54).  Joe and Linda had been trying to contact Lorayne for some time and it was through Lorayne’s daughter, Mary Quine, that they learned the sad news.

Although Bill Case gets a lot of the credit for starting this reunion group, it could not have happened without the efforts and assistance of Lorayne.  We owe them both a lot.

Elliott G. Rogers (Herzo 52/56-59/62-65) passed away on July 13, 2007 as reported to Jim Clinton (Scheyern/Heilbronn 48-53/Rothwesten 65-67) by Elliot’s wife Hilde.  Elliott spoke three languages and was a graduate of the DLI.  Among his many interests, after retiring from the Army in 1969, was his singing with the Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus.  He is survived by his wife Hilde (Matilda K.), a brother, one son, three daughters, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Elliott and Hilde were long time members of this reunion group and last attended our Minneapolis reunion.  Elliott retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant.
