Intelligence Service Volume 2 - Number 2 ASMN Nolan LeCompt (Bad Aibling/Nottau 56-57) reported back in so we have taken him off of the AWOL listing. Seems he had to have an emergency quadruple bypass operation and his e-mail service got messed up in the interim. Harold Borland (Ramstein/Kassel/Frankfurt/Mt. Meisner 69-70) would like to hear from any of you out there that he served with. He was a 98J20. You can contact him by e-mail at chborl@juno.com WEST COAST MINI-REUNION? Probably not. Although I got a positive response from 16 guys, no one volunteered to be the on-site facilitator. So this will be the last opportunity for someone to step up to the plate and volunteer to host the reunion. It's not as hard as you think. (By the way, those 16 responses were from ASAers who are on my e-mail listing. There are still more out there that can be contacted by snail-mail if there is a definite go on the mini-reunion.) What would the facilitator have to do? First, locate a German restaurant that can accommodate the group. This is to continue the German theme of the reunion. Secondly, set up a near-by hotel that has reasonable rates. The hotel should also provide the attendees with a gratis Hospitality Room. Some of the establishments that we have used in the past are the Ramada, Holiday Inn and Best Westerns. These hotels will accept the business without a quantity of rooms guarantee. The hotel should also allow us to bring our own refreshments into the Hospitality Room. A reasonable schedule would be to check in on Friday, May 5th with dinner at the attendees own choice. Saturday, May 6th, would be the night for the German type dinner. Wives, adult children and friends of West Coast ASAers are all welcome to the reunion. If someone volunteers by mid-March, I will be glad to guide them through the process by telephone. Just have tentative hotel rates and German dinner costs set when you call. Joe Strock and the Pennsylvania Wels (Austria) Contingent Plus One will be heading up to the Reading area on March 11th to check up on the progress that Pat McFerren is making from his May 2005 auto accident. We'll report more on this in our next newsletter. The final format of the 116th Signal Radio Intelligence Company history book is now up on our web site. If you haven't already done so, check it out. The January update bounced for the following: Paul Rounds (Herzo/Giessen 48-54), Clyde Pidgeon (Herzo 64-68) and Dick Bonheim (Augsburg 74-76). If any of you are in contact with these guys, please let them know that they are no longer on the mailing list. If they want to re-establish themselves they will have to send me their current e-mail address as well as site history. This is my screw-up but if any of you are in contact with Peter Batts (Scheyern 54-56) please have him send in his current e-mail address. When I tried to contact him through the e-mail address that I had, it bounced. I had neglected to include him in the newsletter e-mail addresses so don't know how long he has been in limbo. Pete's last known snail-mail address was in Clinton Township, MI.
TAPS Clair O. Munson (Scheyern 49-51) passed away on January 1, 2006, as reported by his daughter to Jim Greenlee (Scheyern 48-50). Unfortunately Clair was taken away from us by lung cancer. |
